Disney Unload

March 4, 2008

THE FIRST BIG PRODUCTION TO ARRIVE AT THE NEW DOWNTOWN KINGSTON ARENA IS STRUGGLING WITH BACK-STAGE PROBLEMS.

SEVERAL LARGE TRANSPORT TRUCKS HAVE FACED DELAYS TRYING TO UNLOAD COSTUMES AND OTHER EQUIPMENT FOR TONIGHT'S "DISNEY HIGH SCHOOL" ICE PERFORMANCE.

THE MAIN PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE ARENA'S TIGHT LOCATION.

BUT DESPITE THE UNLOADING DIFFICULTIES.... THE SHOW WILL GO ON.

NEWSWATCH'S LIZ COOK REPORTS.

ON THE ICE, EVERYTHING APPEARS READY TO GO.

ACTORS IN THE DISNEY HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL TOUR ARE GOING THROUGH THE PACES IN AN AFTERNOON DRESS REHEARSAL.

BUT BACK-STAGE AND OUT THE DOOR, A DIFFERENT KIND OF SHOW WAS UNFOLDING.

JOHN SCHIEMAN:

"CHAOS ... THERE ARE SEVEN OR EIGHT TRANSPORT TRUCKS LOADED, AND ALL THIS IS FOR A 1 HOUR SHOW FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND? AND THIS IS A MAJOR TRAFFIC PROBLEM IN THIS AREA TOO."

SEVERAL LARGE TRANSPORT TRUCKS THAT ACCOMPANY THE TOUR FACED LONG DELAYS AND DIFFICULTIES TRYING TO UNLOAD ALL OF THE SHOW'S GEAR.

THE SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE CAN ONLY HANDLE TWO TRANSPORTS AT A TIME.... OFF NARROW STREETS, AND WITH A STEADY FLOW OF TRAFFIC.

BACKING THESE TRUCKS INTO THE LOADING BAYS WAS TRICKY.

...WHILE OTHER DRIVERS WERE FORCED TO PARK THE TRAILER AND WAIT THEIR TURN.

THOUGH NO ONE WANTED TO GO ON CAMERA, ONE SHOW ORGANIZER ADMITTED TO DELAYS.

INSIDE, THE UPBEAT PERFORMERS WERE READY TO ROLL.

MELODEE CYLSDALE:

"BE PREPARED TO BE A PARTICIPATE IN THIS ICE SHOW, BE PREPARED TO SING AND DANCE AND YELL AND SCREAM. KELSEY WILL BE ASKING YOU FOR ANSWERS. LEAVE YOUR AT HOME AND JUST BECOME A KID AGAIN."

LIZ COOK, CKWS NEWSWATCH, KINGSTON.

TONIGHT'S DISNEY ICE SHOW STARTS AT 7 O'CLOCK.

A SECOND SHOW WILL BE ON THE ICE TOMORROW NIGHT.
